What
is BMDP?
BMDP
is a comprehensive
library of statistical routines from simple data description
to advanced multivariate analysis, and is backed by extensive
documentation. Each individual BMDP sub-program is based
on the most competitive algorithms available and has been
rigorously field-tested.
BMDP
provides in-depth functionality for all the major statistical
analyses; such as ANOVA, Regression, Nonparametric Analysis,
Times Series, etc. In addition, BMDP is particularly highly-rated
for the quality and extent of its Survival Analysis Modules,
programs 1L & 2L (see detailed
example), as well as for the statistical advances
made with programs such as 5V (Unbalanced Repeated Measures
Models with Structured Covariance matrices, LE (Maximum
Likelihood Estimation) and PR (Polychotomous Logistic
Regression).
Many
of the world's leading statisticians have been involved
in product development at BMDP over many years and have
played key roles in ensuring that BMDP provides quality
statistical functionality to researchers worldwide. Today,
BMDP continues to set the standard.
New
BMDP Dialog Interface
- You
can easily find and select input and output files. The
interface provides access to the Windows-based file
protocol that allows users to browse through
folders for file names, as in Windows Explorer.
-
The
menus are designed to be similar to those in other
popular software products, even though the goal is
to establish commands for BMDP programs. For example,
- File/Open
and Save, Edit/Select, Copy, Cut, and Paste
as in Microsoft WORD,

- Data
/ Transform / Simple and Conditional,
and Data / Select and Sort as in SPSS and
SYSTAT.
- Data
/ Weight
and Frequency as in SYSYTAT
- Experienced
BMDP users can prepare commands as they always have,
or they can use dialog boxes to create BMDP commands.
- There
are built-in redundancies. For example, the user can
select cases via Data/Select Cases or via the
Data / Transform
- Misspelled
variable names are no longer a headache. Names are specified
once during input (or from a BMDP file). When variable
names are needed for an analysis, the user simply selects
the desired names from a list box with clicks.
- The
interface supplies punctuation, so the common user frustration
about where to place periods, quotes, slashes, parentheses,
etc. is no longer a worry.

- Transformation
statements are checked when the user specifies them
so errors can be corrected immediately.
- The
completed commands are displayed and can be edited or
augmented prior to submission.
